"waste tires have undergone transformation from trash to treasure in a burgeoning industry that collects, processes and sells tire rubber.

Last year, 300 million tires were discarded — about one per American — and 261 million of those were recycled. Most of the 39 million or so tires not recycled were processed for landfill disposal."

Men are living in a state of delusion

An Elle/MSNBC.com Work & Power Survey says that men may be living in a state of delusion since appearance seems to play a big role in how subordinates perceive their bosses.

The one image issue where men and women differed sharply was in how they saw themselves judged in the workplace.

A large majority of women — 61 percent — said they thought men judged them on their looks and 54 percent said they were being judged on their body and weight. Work ethic and accomplishments came in third and fourth, followed by talent.

Men, on the other hand, were more likely to believe that women judge them in the workplace based on their work ethic (43 percent), or accomplishments (40 percent). Factors like talent, sense of humor and looks were lower on the list.

Your effectiveness or your competence is more often judged by how attractive or how competent an image you project of your self.

Poll: Women hold senior positions




"Ninety-one percent of companies on the Chinese mainland have women holding senior management positions, ranking second in the world, after the Philippines, according to the results of a survey released yesterday.

The poll, conducted by Grant Thornton, an accounting firm based in Hong Kong, covered 32 economies.

Hong Kong and Taiwan also rank high on the list, with 83 percent and 80 percent of their firms having women in senior positions.

In the Philippines, 97 percent companies have women holding senior positions."
