Why Second – Life wouldn’t work

I have never been a big fan of Second Life, MySpace or for the matter any such online communities. From a recruiter’s point of view, they leave me cold.

Initially the huge numbers had me salivating but honestly the going-on seems a bit risqué (I use this word for want of a better one).

Suffice to say that I was not comfortable with the profiles and seemed a huge waste of time. Unfortunately, other than a vague gut feeling, I did not have anything solid to back up my claim.

Fortunately Resourcing Strategies has an excellent post, where they have done the math’s and come to the same conclusion.

Former Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright revealed how she went about hiring key executives during her keynote address at the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Global Forum and Exhibition.

When conducting interviews for top corporate positions, the methods she had used to hire some of the most powerful men and women in the world could be applied.

“It is essential to get as much information as possible on a potential hire before meeting him or her, and, by necessity, “some of it is in written form.” However, it is important to talk to people who know that person as well. But even if an HR professional does manage to obtain vast amounts of information on a potential managerial hire, “in the end a lot of it does come down to a gut level, and there is no way to not make a mistake,” she said.”

Mistakes are a part of her territory too.
